THE ALASKA PILOT EXPERIENCE
Stay while you train.
ABOUT US
Our program trains bush operations in most of our flying. The beauty of that is, it makes a better airman.
The techniques and concepts that make a great captain flying in bush Alaska translate quite well to any type of flying. In general, our method targets taking care of the plane in as many conditions as you can think of- sand, gravel, snow, slush, ice, mud, pavement, wind, no wind, short and long runways, and cross winds. We are addressing “whole pilot” concepts and “whole environment” concepts. We are setting standards and guidelines that ensure safe, stable energy management habits and procedures that put the plane and passengers in a first position of value. We are addressing personality and how to manage yourself, your ideas, and the safety of the flight. Lastly, there is not really any added time or cost for any of this as it is part of the basic experience in the first phase of your training.

I am Vance Sasinowski and am the founder of Birch Creek Aviation. My interest in flying started as a boy begging to spend hours off the end of the local runway watching planes come and go. Like many, I was sort of a pilot just in need of a plane and didn’t even know it! I went through the steps of growing up-school, college, the workforce, and sort of wandering not sure of a target. I found myself on an Alaska Airlines flight to Iliamna (a small village on Lake Iliamna AK) one day (from Michigan,1991) and was greeted a Beaver on Floats rumbling over my head, and then an Otter. I was hooked completely. I spent the summer as a fishing guide flying out daily on floatplanes. At that point, I knew my calling.

Whether your aim is to run your own plane around the state, to fly Commercially in a 135 Capacity, or to hard charge for a Major Airline, this may be a fit for you. We are providing the required Certificates with the added value of good Airman Habits for life!

HOW DO I START?

EARN YOUR PRIVATE PILOT CERTIFICATION
A Private Pilot Certification is issued by the Federal Aviation Administration, allowing a person to legally operate an aircraft with passengers. Whether your dream is to earn your FAA Private Pilot Certificate or you are planning to eventually earn advanced ratings, this step is the most fundamental toward becoming a professional pilot. It is the basis upon which all your flight experience and advanced training will be built on.

HOW IT WORKS
1. Take a Discovery Flight!
During this flight you will be introduced to basic aircraft operations and experience hands-on flying with a certified flight instructor. This flight is designed to spark your interest and get you started on your journey.
2. Complete your primary training
In this phase, with our comprehensive alaska-style training, you will learn to establish good airman habits for life. You'll progress to soloing the aircraft, night flying, cross-country flights and ultimately a checkride!
3. Pass your written and practical tests
To complete your private training you must pass both a written and practical exam. Your ground school materials will provide you with the means to pass the written exam. The practical exam will consist of an oral and flight performance check which your flight instructor will prepare you for.
